Peer Review Policy

Submitted manuscripts to Humani (Hukum dan Masyarakat Madani) will first undergo an initial editorial screening to ensure conformity with the journal’s submission guidelines, scope, and academic standards. At this stage, manuscripts are also subject to a similarity check to detect any indication of plagiarism. Submissions that do not meet the journal’s requirements or fall outside its scope will be returned to the authors.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will proceed to a double-blind peer review process, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous. Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two reviewers with relevant expertise and specialization in the field of law. The review process assesses the manuscript based on originality, clarity of presentation, scholarly contribution, relevance to legal studies, and methodological rigor.

To maintain consistency and objectivity, reviewers utilize standardized evaluation criteria. Based on the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the editorial board will determine one of the following decisions:

  • Accepted as it is
  • Accepted with minor revisions
  • Accepted with major revisions
  • Rejected

Rejection generally occurs when the manuscript falls outside the journal’s scope, lacks academic clarity, or presents significant methodological or technical issues.

The final decision regarding manuscript acceptance is made solely by the editor, taking into account the reviewers’ evaluations and recommendations. The entire peer review process typically takes approximately two months; however, due to the volume of submissions and reviewer availability, the process may extend up to four months.

Through this structured peer review policy, Humani is committed to ensuring the publication of high-quality, credible, and impactful legal scholarship.

To ensure the certainty and quality of information on submitted manuscripts, the journal applies a standard service timeline as follows:
