Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Humani (Hukum dan Masyarakat Madani) establishes this policy to ensure the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation. This policy aims to maintain transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
1. Authorship and Accountability
- AI Cannot Be an Author: AI tools and AI-assisted technologies (e.g., Large Language Models, Generative AI) do not meet authorship criteria and therefore cannot be listed as authors.
- Authors’ Responsibility: Authors remain fully responsible for all content in the manuscript, including any part generated or assisted by AI. This includes accuracy, integrity, originality, and ethical compliance.
- Human Oversight: All AI-generated content must be critically reviewed, edited, and validated by the authors.
2. Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must clearly disclose the use of AI and AI-assisted tools in the preparation of their manuscript.
- AI tools used: e.g., ChatGPT (OpenAI), Bard (Google), Grammarly, GPT-4, Midjourney;
- Purpose of use: e.g., language editing, drafting sections, data analysis, image generation;
- Extent of use: description of how AI contributed to the manuscript.
Disclosure may be placed in:
- Acknowledgements section;
- Methods section (if relevant);
- A dedicated “Declaration of AI Use” statement.
Example Statement:
“Portions of this manuscript were prepared using [AI tool name]. The authors used this tool for [specific purpose]. All outputs were reviewed and validated by the authors, who take full responsibility for the content.”
3. Permissible Uses (with Disclosure)
- Language and grammar refinement;
- Drafting non-critical sections;
- Brainstorming and outlining;
- Data analysis and visualization assistance (must be verifiable);
- Summarizing literature (with proper citation).
4. Prohibited Uses
- Generating fabricated data or false information;
- Plagiarism or unattributed AI-generated content;
- Replacing core intellectual contribution of authors;
- Using AI with confidential manuscript content (for reviewers/editors);
- Misrepresenting research findings.
5. Consequences of Misuse
Violations of this policy constitute serious breaches of publication ethics and may result in:
- Rejection of the manuscript;
- Retraction of published articles;
- Restriction or banning of future submissions;
- Notification to the author’s institution or relevant authorities.
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated in line with developments in AI technology and ethical standards in scholarly publishing.
