Citra (image) sebagai salah satu komponen multimedia yang memegang peranan penting sebagaibentuk informasi visual. Ada pepatah yang mengatakan sebuah gambar bernilai lebih dari seribu
kata". Itu tentu sebuah gambar dapat memberikan informasi lebih dari yang disajikan dalam bentuk katakata
(tekstual).Meskipun informasi gambar yang kaya, tetapi sering kali gambar yang kita miliki rusak
parah (degradasi), misalnya, mengandung cacat atau kebisingan, warnanyaterlalu kontras, kurang tajam,
blur (kabur), dan sebagainya. Operasi dilakukandalam pengolahan citra dan lebih beragam. Salah satunya
adalah Peningkatan Citra menggunakan metode kontras peregangan peningkatan kualitas gambar
bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambar yang dapat memberikan informasi sesuai dengan tujuannya.
