Archiving Policy

Journal Ius Constituendum (JIC) is committed to maintaining the long-term accessibility, integrity, and availability of its published scholarly content through digital preservation and archival practices.

1. Digital Preservation through LOCKSS

Journal Ius Constituendum (JIC) uses the Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS) system to support the digital preservation of its published content. LOCKSS is designed to create and maintain distributed archival copies of digital publications, helping protect scholarly content against potential data loss and ensuring its continued availability over time.

Through this preservation approach, JIC seeks to reduce the risk of permanent loss of published articles resulting from technical failures, server disruptions, or other circumstances that may affect the journal's primary website.

LOCKSS Digital Preservation

The LOCKSS system supports distributed preservation by maintaining archival copies of digital content. Further information about LOCKSS is available at https://www.lockss.org/.

2. Access, Preservation, and Restoration

JIC aims to preserve published articles and associated scholarly metadata to support long-term access to the journal's academic record. Digital preservation measures are intended to help maintain the integrity and availability of published content if the primary publication platform experiences technical problems or service interruptions.

Where archived content can be recovered through the applicable preservation arrangements, restoration and access will depend on the availability of preserved copies, technical capabilities, and the applicable access conditions. The journal will seek to maintain access to its published scholarly record while addressing technical issues that may affect content availability.

3. Long-Term Accessibility and Content Integrity

JIC recognizes the importance of preserving the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. Published articles should remain identifiable and accessible through their associated bibliographic information and persistent identifiers, where available.

Any correction, retraction, or other post-publication action affecting a published article will be handled in accordance with the journal's applicable editorial policies. Digital preservation does not replace the journal's responsibility to communicate relevant changes to the scholarly record transparently.

4. Licensing and Use of Archived Content

Content published in Journal Ius Constituendum (JIC) is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license permits users to share and adapt the published material for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made are indicated.

The terms of the license are available at Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).

Digital preservation and licensing serve different purposes. LOCKSS supports the preservation of digital content, while CC BY 4.0 establishes the conditions under which users may reuse and redistribute the published material.

5. Policy Implementation and Review

The editorial team is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy in accordance with the journal's publishing practices and available technical arrangements. The policy may be reviewed and updated when necessary to reflect changes in the journal's digital preservation practices, publication platform, or applicable licensing arrangements.

Preservation Commitment

Journal Ius Constituendum is committed to supporting the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published scholarly content through its digital archiving arrangements and transparent publication policies.
