Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the representation of parental love in the music video ‘Always in Your Pulse’ (Selalu Ada di Nadimu) by Bunga Citra Lestari, the soundtrack of the animated film Jumbo. It focuses on how parental love is constructed and communicated through audiovisual elements within an Indonesian cultural context.

Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach and constructivist paradigm with Krippendorff's content analysis method, based on social construction theory. Data were obtained through non-participant observation, documentation, literature study, and interviews with an expert in film and animation studies to validate interpretations, supported by parents and children to capture audience perspectives. The main data are the visual and lyrical elements of the video.

Findings: The results show that parental love is expressed through nonverbal, verbal, visual, and audio elements. The message construction is narrative and progressive, with a slow pace that gives the audience space to feel the emotional transitions. The message characteristics are conveyed through a personal communication style and a consistent emotional tone and mood, making the message accessible and universally relatable.

Originality: The novelty of this research lies in connecting audiovisual content analysis with social construction theory to highlight how Indonesian music videos can act as vehicles of cultural value formation. This theoretical contribution expands the scope of social construction studies by positioning music videos not only as entertainment artifacts but also as instruments of emotional and educational communication.
