Dinamika Hubungan Interpersonal dalam Pertemanan Antar Pria dan Wanita Pada Pengguna Aplikasi Tinder

Abstrak

This study aims to examine the dynamics of interpersonal relationships in friendships between men and women among Tinder users through the perspective of Social Penetration Theory developed by Altman and Taylor. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with active Tinder users who had established cross-gender friendships through the application. The findings reveal that the dynamics of interpersonal relationships develop through three interconnected processes. First, breadth of self-disclosure is characterized by the exchange of basic personal information and the expansion of communication topics, including occupation, educational background, hobbies, daily activities, and personal interests, as an effort to identify similarities that serve as the foundation for relationship development. Second, depth of self-disclosure evolves through increasing openness regarding life experiences, personal values, emotional conditions, and the gradual establishment of trust as a fundamental prerequisite for strengthening interpersonal relationships. Third, interpersonal relationships undergo a transformation from superficial interactions into more meaningful friendships, as reflected in the migration of communication from Tinder to more personal platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram, accompanied by a stronger commitment to maintaining relationships beyond the dating application.
