Abstract

This study aims to determine the sexual identity of transgender in the film The Danish Girl. The research method used by the author is qualitative through narrative analysis from Algirdas Greimas combined with Identity Theory and Gender Trouble theory from Judith Butler. The data collection technique used in this study is using documentation in the form of film files and non-participant observation accompanied by literature studies to support the data. Data analysis uses two stages, namely the data reduction stage and the interpretation stage. The results of the study show that both sex, gender and sexual orientation are something that is fluid, unnatural and changeable, and constructed by social conditions. Based on the narrative analysis of the Algirdas Greimas model, the film The Danish Girl is characterized by six roles or actants, namely as subject, object, sender, recipient, supporter and barrier.
