Kecantikan Di Balik Tirai: Membongkar Stereotip dalam Drama Korea "My ID Is Gangnam Beauty"
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of female beauty stereotypes in the Korean drama "My ID Is Gangnam Beauty" using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This study uses qualitative descriptions and involves collecting data from several episodes of the drama, to identify signs associated with the representation of female beauty. The findings of this study provide insight into how female beauty is represented in Korean popular media while detailing its impact on society's perception of beauty standards in Korea. The Korean drama "My ID Is Gangnam Beauty" depicts the journey of Kang Mi-rae, a college student who undergoes plastic surgery to fight discrimination and meet Korean society's beauty standards. The drama represents the stereotype of Korean female beauty and highlights the social pressures on individuals to meet recognized beauty standards. The concept of plastic surgery as a step towards an ideal appearance reflects the influence of social pressure on the perception of beauty. Through Mi-rae's character, the drama attempts to create a myth that physical beauty is still a standard of social acceptance in society.
