MANFAAT SMARTPHONE SEBAGAI MEDIA KOMUNIKASI BAGI ORANG TUA DI KELURAHAN GISIKDRONO SEMARANG

Abstract

This research aims to determine the benefits of smartphones as a communication medium for parents in Gisikdrono Village, Semarang. The theoretical basis used is the uses and gratifications theory by Blumler, Gurevitch and Katz. The research method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach with the object of research being parents with families, elderly people who use smartphones every day. The research results show that parents use social media as a medium to communicate with their closest family and friends. They have abandoned regular credit, and switched to using the internet connection fully. This group of parents and the elderly often access information related to cooking recipes, read online news, watch comedy videos and listen to campursari songs via YouTube. Apart from that, they also look for various promotions for basic necessities, diapers and children's implants through online shopping sites. This shows self-expression, where they have used smartphones based on the information they need.
