Abstract

This study aims to determine the discourse of a harmonious family in the film Yes Day, using Teun A. Van Dijk's discourse analysis. This study is motivated by the phenomenon of a harmonious family which is often an inspiration or educational media in making a film, one of which is a film entitled Yes Day in 2021. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method, which combines primary data and text analysis as well as a review of the Yes Day Film material and secondary data from interviews with psychologists as a form of confirmation of the primary data. The results of the study show that the harmonious family narrated by the Yes Day film is a family that is able to control situations, conditions, and conflicts over time with roles according to the portion of each family member. The harmony of the Yes Day film family is suitable for middle-class urban Indonesian society living in urban areas. However, the narrative of a harmonious family presented in the film seems less appropriate when applied to rural communities, especially in Indonesia which adheres to a complex kinship system. Keywords: Discourse Analysis, Teun A.
