Abstract

Abstract

The terrorist act involving the delivery of a pig's head to the Tempo editorial office in March 2025 is seen as a significant event that highlights the threat to press freedom in Indonesia. This study was conducted to examine how Kompas, as an online news media outlet, framed the terror case and to understand the narrative construction presented to the public, with the main argument that media framing plays an important role in shaping the meaning of the event, not merely as a criminal act. This study uses a qualitative approach with Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method, which includes four elements: problem definition, interpretation of causes, moral assessment, and recommendations for resolution. The research objects consist of five Kompas news articles published between March and April 2025. The results show that in the early stages, Kompas framed the pig head terror as a direct threat to journalism and press freedom. However, as the news developed, the focus of the narrative gradually shifted from identifying the perpetrators to highlighting the government's statements, attitudes, and responses. Thus, this study shows that the terror incident was reconstructed not only as a criminal act but also as a matter of political communication ethics, thereby contributing to the study of media framing in the context of press freedom.
